LEE SHINES AS ROS WINS OPENING THRILLER
Published on October 2, 2011
PAUL Lee was as good as advertised, helping Rain or Shine get off to a rousing start in the PBA Philippine Cup and making coach Yeng Guiao recover somewhat from an act of vandalism on his car back in Pampanga. With the No. 2 overall pick either scoring or dishing off, the Elasto Painters hurdled the Barangay Ginebra Kings, 94-93, Sunday in the lone match ushering in the 37th season of the league at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The former University of the East and PBL star wound up with gamehighs of 21 points and eight assists in his PBA debut coming off the bench as Rain or Shine managed to escape with the win despite a blown 16-point lead. “It’s a big win for us,” said Guiao. “First day, first game, medyo me konting jitters pa. It’s good thing we had a good lead coming into the endgame. We’d take that.”
The scores: Rain or Shine 94 - Lee 21, Chan 18, Norwood 11, Buenafe 10, Cruz 8, Quinahan 7, Matias 6, Belga 4, Rodriguez 4, Ibanes 4, Arana 1. Ginebra 93 - Intal 16, Caguioa 16, Helterbrand 11, Tubid 8, Cortez 8, Wilson J. 6, Canaleta 6, Villanueva 6, Labagala 5, Mamaril 5, Wilson W. 4, De Ocampo 2, Cervantes 0.
NBA Lockout – 2011-2012 Season May Be Cancelled

NBA senior vice president Tim Frank has denied that the threat is going to be made by stating “It’s simply not true”. When asked about the coming weekend meetings, Stern stated “I’m focused on let’s get the two committees in and see whether they can either have a season or not have a season, and that’s what’s at risk this weekend”.
The regular 82 game season is set to start on November 1st, but that schedule will have major modifications if some form of an agreement isn’t reached by the middle of next week by both parties. The preseason is the first to be affected by the lockout, resulting in the cancellation of all 43 preseason games along with the postponing of the training camps.
One thing that has been agreed on by both sides is that there hasn’t been enough progress to form any kind of deal whatsoever. Meetings will resume on Friday in New York following the end of Rosh Hashanah. When asked about the expanded meetings, Union president Derek Fisher of the Los Angeles Lakers stated that “I think it points more toward the calendar than actually being able to measure progress.
It points to the realities that we face with our calendar and that if we can’t find a way to get some common ground really, really soon, then the time of starting the regular season at its scheduled date is going to be in jeopardy big-time.”.
